Kevin Diers, a prominent voice in Seattle music and radio, has passed away at the age of 39. Known for his deep passion for heavy metal and local music, Diers was the longtime host of Metal Shop and Loud & Local on 99.9 KISW-FM and also served as an announcer and board operator at public radio station KUOW.

KISW confirmed the news in a statement, remembering Diers as a beloved part of their broadcast family: “Kevin brought infectious enthusiasm and passion for everything he did-especially Seattle music, the metal scene and pro wrestling. Local musicians and metal fans lost one of their biggest champions and we all lost a dear friend.” The station added that tribute episodes of Metal Shop and Loud & Local will air this weekend in his honor.

Diers’ radio journey began after he won a contest to co-host Metal Shop, eventually becoming a cornerstone of the station’s local programming. He was equally cherished at KUOW, where he brought the same spirit and commitment to public broadcasting. “He had as much passion for public radio as he did for hosting Metal Shop,” said Arvid Hokanson, KUOW’s director of audience. “He brought smiles to work and a desire to learn, grow, and lend a helping hand.”

Fellow broadcaster Cathy Faulkner described Diers as “an amazing, gentle, kind soul with an amazing work ethic and an obsession and passion for the local community.” Diers also contributed to Seattle’s cultural landscape through writing, podcasting, and his deep involvement with DEFY Wrestling, where he served as a ring announcer, social media producer, and co-host of The Defyant Ones podcast.

Diers was a 2008 graduate of Western Washington University and had remained active in Seattle’s media, wrestling, and music communities. KUOW colleagues and friends described him as a “bright light” and a tireless connector who championed others.
