The American Authors Have Taken The Format By Storm
The American Authors have taken the format by storm and are off to an amazing story at Top40 and other formats. “Best Day Of My Life” (Island) is nothing short of brilliant. It’s already being covered by artists from X Factor to The Voice, a sign that a big hit has evolved and at rapid speed. Lorde is back with yet another gem. “Team” (Lava/Republic) is the follow-up and it’s even better than her debut. Many of our music and program directors have already jumped on this new masterpiece. Lupe Fiasco has teamed up with the brilliant and talented Ed Sheeran for a great track. “Old School Love” (1st & 15th/Atlantic) is about is good as they get so make sure to add this to your list of currents. You can be assured that the phones will light up with every spin on this one. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have teamed up with Schoolboy Q for another winner. “White Walls” (WB/WEA) is the jam that is getting rave reviews. This team cleaned up at the recent American Music Awards and will no doubt captivate the Grammy Awards so don’t be a late bloomer on this one. Recording artist John Newman has a real solid single on his hands. The cut “Love Me Again” (Republic) is just what Top40 radio needs at this time. Make sure to give this one a fair shot and you will be thanking me in the future. John Mayer and his on again off again gal pal Katy Perry may have found magic together in a new single. “Who You Love” (Columbia/Sony) has been getting some test spins and the word is that it has solid hit potential. I’m not too surprised but we’ll see how it all plays out in the coming weeks. Eminem is back with his old friend Rihanna for another single. The track “The Monster” (Aftermath/Interscope) is fast becoming a real favorite among many of our programmers and that should be of no surprise to many. I hate to admit it but I really like the new Lady Gaga, R Kelly single “Do What U Want” (Streamline/Interscope). Those two really deserve each other and the results may prove to be positive. Drake has teamed up with Majid Jordan for something that is pure magic. “Hold On, We’re Going Home” (Young Money/Cash Money/Republic) is the jam that I’m talking about. If you don’t believe me, just give it a few spins and see what happens. One of the best bands in recent memory is Imagine Dragons. They strike once again with the stellar “Demons” (Interscope) and what a great song this is. You can bet that this band will be around for quite some time to come as their list of hits just keeps on growing. Recording artist Tyga has teamed up with Justin Bieber for a real solid song. “Wait For A Minute” (Cash Money/Universal Republic) is really pulling in some rather strong numbers. It might be worth your time and attention. A Great Big World has a solid hold on radio and make no mistake about that. Their brilliant debut “Say Something” (Epic/Sony) is fast becoming a monster hit. It also didn’t hurt that Christina Aguilera joined them in some vocal support during a recent Voice appearance and on the single. Katy Perry continues to amaze us time after time. Her latest offering in “Unconditionally” (Capitol) is actually quite catchy and it appears that se will continue to rule the charts in the weeks and months to come. There are some great holiday songs that deserve your attention. Allen D and his “Christmas Song” (New Terra) is doing quite well as did his “In the Still of the Night”. Adrian Bal has “Christmas Is Coming” (Bal) that is strong. Carmen & Camille bring us “Christmas Kiss” (TwinSpin Music) and Pullman Standard bring us “Happy Holidays To All” (Coast). I’d like to take this time to extend my best Holiday wishes to all of you out there, I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and an even better New Year.
