Best Of Top40
There is no hotter girl in the music scene as of late than Charli XCX. She’s on a roll and nobody can stop her. “Break The Rules” (Atlantic/WEA) is her latest and this should move her up a few notches in the music world. Selena Gomez has managed to release one of her best singles to date. We’re not really sure what has been going on with her and Justin Bieber but whatever it is they need to keep it going. “The Heart Wants What The Heart Wants” (Hollywood) is a smash and make no doubt about it. It already ranks #5 at KIIS FM here in Los Angeles, an indicator of things to come. SIA is also another female artist to pay attention to. “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile” (RCA/RLG) is her latest and it’s another gem from this amazing recording artist.
Eden XO is off like a rocket and make no mistake about that, “Too Cool To Dance” (Virgin) is the latest and our music and program directors can’t seem to get enough of this one. Milky Chance has a break away hit on their hands. Everybody is raving big time about “Stolen Dance” (Republic) and for good reason, it’s just that hot. Our good pal Adam Levine and his Maroon 5 are up to some very big things. Their latest single “Animals” (222/Interscope) is without a doubt the biggest and fastest climbing single of the year. It’s already #1 on many Top40 lists and will no doubt end up being the bands biggest record to date. Adam’s little stint on The Voice (NBC) has helped with all of this as well.
Sam Smith is as hot as any new make artist on the music planet these days. His latest “I’m Not The Only One” (Capitol/EMI) is fast becoming his second #1 single and his third Top 5 in just the past few months. Sam will no doubt be a solid favorite come Grammy time. That little boy band One Direction seems to be making the most of their ten seconds of fame. Their latest “Steal My Girl” (Syco) seems to be keeping them in good company. I’m also happy to see that Meghan Trainor is no “one hit wonder”. She’s crushing that notion as her new “Lips Are Movin’” (Epic/Sony) takes flight. Meghan will no doubt be meeting up with Gwen Stefani at the top of the charts soon. Gwen’s new “Baby Don’t Lie” (Interscope) is the talk of the town and her new stint on The Voice is no doubt (no pun intended) helping her out big time as well.
Fall Out Boy is back at it and make no mistake about that. Their “Centuries” (Island) is quite a surprise as they continue to build a huge and powerful fan base. Also breaking big this week is Iggy Azalea who takes her friend MO along for the ride. Together they are bringing the single “Beg For It” (DefJam) to new heights. Calvin Harris is a brilliant talent and when you bring vocalist John Newman alone only good things can happen. Their little duet “Blame” (Columbia) is one of the best songs on the radio today. Meninos Morumbi has joined forces with Julian Lennon for a brilliant rendition of “Summertime” (Music Is Hope). It’s pure magic and is fast becoming a real favorite among our music and program directors, It’s great to have Nickelback return to the format. We’ve been hearing raves about their new “Edge Of A Revolution” (Republic). Francis Bowie is back with a great new single in “Sex Drugs & Thrilling” (dGenerate) that is brilliant.
Our good pal Matt Backer has a solid winner on his hands with “Histrionic Narcissist Blues” (Right) and if you’re not on it what are you waiting for? Bill Curreri continues to close in on a top spot with his brilliant “Son Of An American Dream” (BCM). Brandy Moss Scott is having a banner year with her “Benny & The Jets” (Heavenly Tunes). Marsha Jewell is amazing everyone with her stellar “Tomorrow” (Jewel Lane). Kimik X has a huge hit on their hands with “Bug Out” (Kaieteur Records). All of the above deserve your attention for this year’s New Music Awards, I’ll have more about the greatest hits at the Top40 format next year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
