FALL TIME FOR AC RADIO
Smokey Robinson has teamed up with another music icon in James Taylor for a single release that AC radio just loves. “Ain’t That Peculiar” (Verve) is a special rendition from this dynamic duo and its perfect timing for this classic set just right for the fall season. It’s always good to have Richard Marx back at radio. He’s winning raves and praise from a good number of our music and program directors for the track entitled “Whatever We Started” (Zanzibar). You can always count on Richard to bring his very best to the format. Also getting some stellar action are the Counting Crows. Their new single “Scarecrow” (Capitol) seems to appear on the top of everyone’s playlist, a sign that there is something very special going on. Keep a watchful eye and ear on this one in the weeks to come.
The Black Keys are making waves at AC radio and that is always a good thing. “Gotta Get Away” (Nonesuch/Reprise) is their latest and greatest and you may want to spend some special time with this gem. Robert Plant is back at radio and it’s about time. His new single “Rainbow” (East West) reminds us that this guy is still a relevant vocalist. Just when we thought the group Bastille would be a one trick pony we have to think again. Their new “Flaws” (Virgin) single gives us a another twist on this unique outfit and brings them up a few extra notches. Big Data has teamed up with Joywave for a single that will be worth your time. “Dangerous” (Crush/Wilcassettes/WB) is the cut that is a “must add”.
Newcomer Alexandra Kay is making major waves at both AC and Top40. Her new “No More” (Nettwork/RED) is brilliant and this young lady has a very bright future indeed. One girl that needs no further praise is Taylor Swift. Just when we thought she may have peaked she puts out a single like “Shake It Off” (Big Machine/Universal) and she’s back on top in the blink of an eye. The pairing of Ariana Grande with Zedd has turned out to be pure magic. Radio is loving the single “Break Free” (Universal Republic) and for good reason. Watch for some even better weeks ahead for this gem to be sure.
Matt Backer has made a return to radio and his timing is pitch perfect. The new single “Histrionic Narcissist Blues” (Right) is the first release from his brand new Get Backer CD that is out of this world. It’s been the #1 “most added” for two weeks now and is flying up our AC40 charts at lightning speed. Matt will no doubt have a stellar run with this gem & it’s not even the best song on the album. 5 Seconds Of Summer continues their love affair at the format. “Amnesia” (Capitol) is the cut that is still getting raves from our music and program directors and their listeners are loving this one big time as well.
The fabulous Fall Out Boys are back at it. “Centuries” (Island) is the one that is capturing everyone’s attention at this moment. Maroon 5 are back with a monster song in “Animals” (222/Interscope) and make no mistake about that. Coldplay has to be celebrating that their new “A Sky Full Of Stars” (Atlantic/WEA) has become an instant anthem. Mary Lambert is the red hot new girl on the block. Her “Secrets” (Capitol) is nothing short of brilliant and so is she. Christina Perri also continues her winning ways as “Burning Gold” builds support. Her Atlantic and WEA label partners are just thrilled.
Bill Curreri continues a powerful run as his debut single “Son Of An American Dream” (BCM) moves towards the top of the charts. Flaunt is close behind with their monster single “Codon” (Anticodon) that is breaking all over the USA. Brandy Moss Scott celebrates a #1 single at NMW with her brilliant rendition of the classic “Benny & The Jets” (Heavenly Tunes). Marsha Jewell is also set for a stack of #1 action for her heartfelt “Tomorrow” (Jewel Lane). I’ll have more for you on the greatest hits of AC next time right here my good friends.
