Turn On The AC For Summer
Brian Wilson has finally returned to pop radio. Not only is he bringing the single “Love And Mercy” (Capitol) out to the public, his private life is being revealed in a film of the same name. I got a chance to see it the other day and it’s quite something – a must see for any music fan. I also had the privilege of meeting the music icon a few years back and you won’t meet a nicer and sweeter guy. We wish him the very best on the new single, album and movie. You can count on us here at New Music Weekly to share with you on any updates we get for this amazing new Brian Wilson venture.
Fifth Harmony is having a good run at the format and it’s about time. This act first brought to us from Simon Cowell on the show X-Factor has teamed up with Kid Ink for the track entitled “Worth It” (Syco Music/Epic) and what a hot single it is indeed. I’m also happy to report that Michael Franti & Spearhead are back in action. He’s teamed up with recording artist Sonna Rele for the single “Once A Day” (Fantasy/Concord) and what a powerful entry this one is. We’ll see how it all pans out in the weeks to come but if you are one of our many talented music programmers, you may want to spend time on this one.
Nick Fradiani is making the most of his American Idol win. The eldest member of all the contestants is taking “Beautiful Life” (19/Big Machine) out for a spin and make no mistake about it – mentor Scott Borchetta from the Big Machine Label Group is pulling out all the stops for Nick and his debut release. Rob Thomas is back at the format and that is a very good thing for radio. “Trust You” (Emblem/Atlantic) is his latest and it brings back that old Matchbox 20 vibe in a big way and just in time for Summer.
Taylor Swift has teamed up with Kendrick Lamar for a special re-mix of her smash hit single “Bad Blood” (Big Machine/Universal). It seems that Taylor can just about pair up with anyone these days (no offense to Kendrick) and can reach the top of the charts in record time. We can only imagine the next wave of songs from possibly Taylor Swift with Calvin Harris, I’m just sayin’. DJ Snake & Aluna George are working some magic together and it’s all good as “You Know You Like It” (Interscope) quickly becomes a music anthem. This one is hard to get out of your head for sure.
Rachel Platten is making the most of her recent ten minutes of fame. She puts it all out there in “Fight Song” (Columbia) and the results have been amazing. Rachel may be here to stay but only time will tell that for us. So far, so good young lady. That Wiz Khalifah and Charlie Ruth pairing took them all the way to the top of the charts. “See You Again” (Atlantic) from the Fast & Furious sound-track has been the real big surprise in 2015.
The American Authors are back at the format and everybody is going crazy for this new one. “Go Big Or Go Home” (IDJMG) is fast becoming a solid favorite among our music and program directors. This is the perfect Hot AC act and this new single has the Summer of 2015 written all over it. Watch for some monster weeks ahead for this amazing track.
The new band Sleep State is having a solid run at radio. “Make A Move” (Ind) is their debut and you could not ask for a better opening track to take to any format.
Bill Curreri has a brand new single that is rocking the radio charts. “With Lydia” (Ind) is a song he wrote for his girl-friend and we are happy to report that the single and the girl-friend are doing just fine. Mirage Box is back at it with “Last Beautiful Woman” (Growlyman Endeavors) and what a great song for the format. Flaunt is taking their track “National Anthem” (Anticodon) out for a spin and the results are stellar. Tom Maclear has a brilliant offering in “Unapproachable” (Meg) that is breaking all over radio and Brandy Moss Scott continues her #1 ways with “Bye-Bye Baby” (Heavenly Tunes).
