Top40 Summer Best
Pitbull has one of the best songs I’ve heard at Top40 in recent months. He’s teamed up with John Ryan for the cleaver and strong “Fireball” (Mr 305/Polo Grounds Music/RCA) that is really something. If radio gives it a shot and I’m sure they will, this could go all the way. David Guetta has teamed up with Sam Martin and the results are amazing. “Lovers On The Sun” (What A Music/Parlophone/Atlantic) is the latest from this new duo and watch for some big weeks ahead. The Madden Brothers are making quite a stand at the format. Their new “We Are Done” (Capitol) is fast becoming a real favorite among our music and program directors. That can only mean some big things ahead for this band of brothers.
Jessie J is back and this time out she’s teamed up with Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj for a single that is pulling in huge numbers. “Bang Bang” (Republic) is the cut that is taking off like a rocket and the phones and research for this one is giving us every indicator that this has #1 potential written all over it. I must admit that I’m really getting into the red hot newcomer Meghan Trainor. Her sudden smash “All About That Bass” (Epic/Sony) is as catchy as they come and once you give it a listen you will be hooked for life. You can bet that this is just the beginning for this bright and powerful new artist.
Enrique Iglesias has joined forces with recording artist Descemer Bueno and the results are killer. Radio is going crazy for their new “Bailando” (Universal Republic) and even as it got a slow start, all of the sudden this thing has exploded. The powers that be over at Universal Republic appear to now be all over this one and for good reason. Fences and the brilliant Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are getting some spin action at radio for a new track. The single “Arrow” (Elektra/WEA) is really something to spend some quality time on. We’ve been getting nothing but raves on it so there must be something to it.
Ed Sheeran just keeps pulling rabbits out of his British hat. His new single “Don’t” (Atlantic/WEA) is cranking the spins into power and he appears to have yet another gem on his hands. Katy Perry is back and that should be of no surprise to anyone. “This Is How We Do” (Capitol) is her latest and although it’s off to a slow build don’t let that fool you. Capitol will no doubt be all over it in the coming weeks. Nicki Minaj has a hit in the works and make n mistake about it. “Anaconda” (Cash Money/Universal Republic) is her latest and this one has some serious leg action.
5 Seconds Of Summer have come onto the scene just as the Summer is getting close to wrapping up. Their new “Amnesia” (Capitol) is excellent and our music and program directors are all over it. Colbie Caillat is back at the format with another strong track. “Try” (Universal Republic) is the new one from this multi-talented lady and watch for some great things ahead for it in the coming weeks. One Republic continue to rock the Top40 world. Their latest “Love Runs Out” (Interscope) is really quite good and they just keep rolling out hit after hit thanks to their multi-talented front man.
Bill Curreri is breaking “fast and furious” with his excellent “Son Of An American Dream” (BCM). It pull in big “most added” numbers this week to be sure. Flaunt has joined forces with Justin Jennings and the results are stellar. “Codon” (Anticodon) is the single and take a look at this week’s amazing numbers. Brandy Moss Scott continues to rock the house with her brilliant “Benny & The Jets” (Heavenly Tunes). The Naked Cowgirl aka Sandy Kane is moving past the competition with her smart “I Love Nick” (Sexy). Marsha Jewell continues marvel with “Tomorrow” (Jewel Lane). Kimik X and “Bug Out” (Kaieteur) is the track to keep an eye and ear out for. I’ll be back with more on the Top40 hit train next time my good people.
