Top40 First Quarter
Mike Posner is back at Top40 and it’s about time. This talented gent is taking the single “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” (Monster Mountain/Island) out for a spin and so far so very good indeed. Jason Derulo is still the hottest hand in pop music these days and it only gets better as his new “Get Ugly” (Beluga Heights/WB) moves ahead of the rest. I’m also happy to report that the little duet with Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello entitle “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (Island/UMG) is really becoming a monster record. Shawn has had a banner few months and this new one should seal the deal for him and his team.
Those crazy Chainsmokers have teamed up with Rozes for, get this, a single called “Roses” (Columbia). As strange as it may seem this production team knows just how to get the morning shows buzzing and this has been translating into hit singles. Maybe they can give some additional inspiration to Justin Bieber? He has teamed up with J Blavin for a very sparse track which they call “Sorry” (RBMG/DefJam/UMG). Only the Bieb could get away with such things because he’s such a cleaver lad but hey whatever works.
Travis Scott is fast becoming the talk of the town as his new “Antidote” (Grand Hustle/Epic) takes flight. This one might be worth your time as it appears to be building by leaps and bounds. I also really like the new cut from Lukas Graham. “7 Years” (WB/WEA) is the jam that is setting the world on fire. The pairing of the multi-talented Nathan Sykes with young a stunning Ariana Grande appears to be a very good thing. “Over And Over Again” (Global Music/UMG) is the track and I’d be all over this one if I were you.
G Eazy & Bebe Rexha have got it all going on and a bag of chips. Their little ditty entitled “Me, Myself & I” (BPG/RVG/RCA) seems to be working just fine from coast to coast. Also getting in on the spin action is Tori Kelly. She’s so hot that you can barely touch her as the track “Hollow” (SchoolBoy/Capitol) finds higher ground. Everybody is buzzing big time about Twenty One Pilots. You know an act is hot when your local TV weatherman is talking about them and their monster jam “Stressed Out” (Fueled By Ramen).
Victor Solomon is taking it to church with a debut single. “I’m Not Your Boyfriend” (Indie) is the first single from him and out of the gate it’s looking pretty good. All you have to do is look at the Top40 “most added” and Indie chart this week to see what I am talking about. And while you are looking at the charts you may notice that Mirage Box is back and in a very big way. Their new single “Secret Smile” (Growlyman Endeavors) is so hot that you can barely touch it. This is such a talented outfit and you can expect some monster weeks ahead for this great new track. They bring back a touch of retro and we need that badly.
Primadonna is getting some love from our panel of music and program directors. Their release of the single “Superman” is just what the doctor ordered. Coldplay getting some well-deserved love for their single “Adventure Of A Lifetime” (Parlophone/Atlantic). Chuck Murphy has been having quite a solid showing as his “One More Time” (One West) keeps pulling ahead of the pack. He is also an NMA Nominee.
We are so very excited about this very special NMA issue. Please take some time to check out the list of nominations in this issue and there are some amazingly talented artists that made the list.
