Top40 Chartbreakers
The Weeknd has one of the fastest rising singles during the summer of 2015. His stellar “Can’t Feel My Face” (Universal Republic) has made some rather bold and beautiful moves over the past few weeks and it looks like back to back #1 for this rising pop star. Also getting raves from our music and program directors is the band 30 Seconds To Mars. Our panel is all over their new “Do or Die” (In2une Music) in a very big way. The band has huge potential and this single will no doubt add more fuel to their fire. We’ll see how it all plays out in the coming week but so far so very good.
Omi has come from nowhere to become the artist to beat in the summer of 2015. He is definitely considered a “chart-breaker” as his “Cheerleader” (Ultra) is fast becoming a pop anthem. Expect some bigger and better things to come from Omi. MKTO are getting back on track with a mainstream winner. “Bad Girls” (Columbia) took a little time to take hold but now that it’s “on the move” the track is picking up spin increases big time. Make sure to add this to your list of favorites and you will be so very glad that you did.
Tori Kelly has a good thing going and make no mistake about it. Her new “Should’ve Been Us” (Silent/Capitol) is fast becoming a real favorite at the Top40 format and it’s of no surprise to us here at NMW. We first brought you the information about Tori right here in the column and we’re so happy to see that she didn’t let us down. I have to say that I’m quite impressed with the new Selena Gomez track featuring Asap Rocky. “Good For You” (Interscope) is such a pleasant surprise to many of us and this mix really shows us the new bold direction that Selena has chosen. It should serve her well in the months and year to come.
The Meghan Trainor pairing with John Legend appears to be paying off big time. “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” (Epic) is one of her very best and adding the Legend isn’t hurting one bit. If you can throw his beautiful wife into the mix all the better. R City has teamed up with Adam Levine for one of the best surprises of the summer. If you want to talk Chart-Breaker look no further than their “Locked Away” (Kemosabe/RCA) single that is taking radio by storm. I have a feeling that this new dynamic duo will take this magical track all the way to the top of the charts but only time will tell on that one.
Skrillex has joined forces with Diplo and the always interesting Justin Bieber for a song that will not go away. “Where Are You Now” (OWSLA/Mad Decent/Atlantic) has been floating around the charts for months now and it seems to be hanging in there. The triple label behind this is pulling out all the stops and it appears to be paying off. Silento is another artist that has been fighting the good fight and patience is helping in a very big way. The track “Watch Me” (Bolo/Capitol) is the gem that we are talking about and this is a very catchy song that you should really spend some time on.
Flaunt is having quite the run with their “National Anthem” (Anticodon) single. A track that started right here is now getting spins and action on the Mediabase/Billboard stations and remember that you heard about them first right here. Bill Curreri is also getting some major action for his new single. “With Lydia” (BCR) a song that he wrote for his long-time girlfriend, is moving to the top of the charts and in record time. Brandy Moss Scott is continuing he #1 ways as her indie released “Bye, Bye Baby” (Heavenly Tunes) is the one to beat. Mirage Box is “on fire” with their latest single. “Last Beautiful Woman” (Growlyman Endeavors) & what a gem this one is. Tom MacLear is also rocking the charts with his new “Unapproachable” (Meg) that is out of this world. I’ll have more for you on the biggest Top40 Chart-Breakers on the music planet next time.
