Top40 For Indie Artists
Adam Lambert is back with a gem for the format and there are big hopes that this will bring him back as a relevant recording artist. “Ghost Town” (WB/WEA) is the new release and it’s an excellent showcase with respect to what he’s all about. You can be assured that the American Idol team will be pulling for this one to fly big time. Lunchmoney Lewis is making the most of his new found fame. “Bills” (Kemosabe/Columbia) has been a bit of a sleeper but it’s finally getting the attention it so deserves. This guy is a real riot and the song along with the super cleaver video should be doing much better that it has been. We’ll see how it all plays out for him in the weeks to come.
Fetty Wap is rocking the music world be leaps and bounds. “Trap Queen” (RGF Productions/300 Entertainment) is the jam that many of our music and program directors just can’t get enough of. It might be time to pay some extra special attention to this if you haven’t done so already. The pairing of Shaggy with Mohombi, Faydee & Costi is starting to finally pay off. The single is pretty much an independent venture in “I Need Your Love” (RAL/Sony) so they are doing a lot of the work on their own. We think that it has a lot of merit and make sure you give this one some extra spins this week if you can.
Meghan Trainor is back with yet another gem. “Dear Future Husband” (Epic) keeps her hot as a pistol and you know you have something good going on when Dancing With the Stars keeps using the track for their current line-up of stars. It’s so fifties yet it has that now sound which makes this single a real winner. Dillon Francis has teamed up with DJ Snake for the smash hit “Get Low” (Columbia). Watch for some blockbuster weeks ahead for this masterpiece. Andy Grammer is another artist that deserves more good things. His latest in “Honey, I’m Good” (S Curve/EMI) is such a great track that you have to wonder why he seems to always have to fight for every break. That’s what makes him a great artist.
Sia has another great track on her hands. “Elastic Heart” (RCA/RLG) is the latest from this super talented song writer and recording artist. Carly Rae Jepsen has a new single that is fast becoming a real favorite. “I Really Like You” (School Boy/Interscope) is such a catchy track and many of our music and program directors are raving about it big time. Rihanna is getting some spin action for “Bitch Better Have My Money” (Roc Nation) but it appears that another single has also been dropped so we’ll see that this is all about.
Jason Derulo delivers another amazing single to Top40 and Hot AC. “Want To Want Me” (Beluga Heights/WB) has to be him at his very best. Watch for some huge moves all the way to #1 for this monster record. Pitbull has joined forces with Chris Brown (why not – it seems everybody does) for the track entitled “Fun” (Mr 305/Polo Grounds Music/RCA). Omi has a great new single out and about called “Cheerleader” (Ultra). Make sure you give this one some attention in the coming weeks as it could fly.
Kelly Clarkson’s new “Heartbeat Song” (RCA/RLG) is such a great track and should be doing so much better on the charts. Not sure if it’s getting the real push from the label that it deserves. Newcomer Jillian Kohr is “on fire” with her new – The Way That I Love You (Black Cherry) single and make no mistake about that. Bernie Townsend has a good thing going with “Just Won’t Touch Me Now” (Gravel Road).
The Weekend has the best song at Top40 in “Earned It” (Universal Republic). Who Is Fancy is on the move with “Goodbye” (Silent/Republic). Mirage Box is moving fast again with “Juarez” (Growlyman Endeavors) & “Bye Bye Baby” from Brandy Moss Scott (Heavenly Tunes) is closing in fast. Bill Curreri is also raging with “Fade Away” (Ind).
