The Chainsmokers Have One Of The Best Singles
The Chainsmokers have one of the best singles to hit radio so far in 2014. “Selfie” (Dim Mak) is the jam that I’m talking about and what a great idea for a song considering the current climate we live in. This is the kind of a track that makes you say, “why didn’t I think of that”? Beyonce is making the most of her new album and the singles just keep on coming. Such is the case for “Partition” (Columbia/Sony) that is breaking all over radio and in a very big way. So much is being said about Idina Menzel that we don’t know where to start. It seems that her appearance during this year’s Academy Awards has done her good. So much so that her new, “Let It Go” (Walt Disney), single is breaking just about everywhere across the USA. It should be a very good run for her in the weeks to come. The infamous B.O.B. has teamed up with Priscilla and that is making for instant magic. The cut “John Doe” (Atlantic/WEA) is fast becoming a favorite among many of our music and program directors and for good reason. Zedd has found a place at radio and won’t let go. “Find You” (Interscope) is the latest and it’s well on its way to becoming an instant radio classic. You can’t seem to go anywhere without hearing a single from Fitz & The Tantrums. They are now taking “The Walker” (Elektra/WEA) out for a spin and so far the results have been quite amazing. This could be the new band to watch in 2014. Justin Timberlake keeps rolling out hit after hit. Now he’s working the single “Not A Bad Thing” (RCA/RLG) out to the format and he keeps getting additional thrust and reaction from music fans & programmers. This one is set for greater things ahead. Our good pal Pitbull has teamed up with GRL for another interesting situation. Together they are rocking the world with “Wild, Wild Love” (Mr 305/ Polo Grounds/RCA) and it’s pulling in calls everywhere it’s spinning. You may want to pay some special attention to this one. Also getting some major action is Tiesto. The single “Red Lights” (Casablanca/ Republic) appears to be well on its way to breaking across radio formats. Cash Cash gets together with Bebe Rexha and the results are out of this world. The track “Take Me Home” (Big Beat/RRP) is picking up speed at a very rapid pace and is off and running. YG has a good thing going and make no mistake about that. “My Hitta” (DefJam) is the jam that is breaking fast and furious. The act called Galvanized Soul is also getting in on the spin action. “Behind Green Eyes” (Rockerazzi) is fast becoming a solid favorite among our radio stations. Give that one a spin around the block for sure. A Great Big World continues to rule the world with heir debut smash hit “Say Something” (Epic/Sony). It’s one of the brightest spots to hit radio all year and you heard about them first right here on the pages of New Music Weekly. We also told you first about the amazing Ed Barker who teamed with vocalist Lance Ellington. Together they bring us “When You Smile” (EBR) that is an all-out radio smash. Pharrell continues to be “Happy” (Universal/ UMG) and you can’t ask for more than that. Lorde has another massive hit in “Team” (Lava/Republic) and that should be no surprise to anyone. Aloe Blacc is proving he’s the real deal. He shows us in every way as “The Man” (Interscope) moves past the rest of the pack. Bastille has made the most of their ten minutes with “Pompeii” (Virgin). Jason Derulo has teamed up with 2 Chainz for the classic “Talk Dirty” (Beluga Heights/WB). Newcomer Francis Bowie has taken his debut single to amazing heights in “Number One” (dGenerate). Amen Alibi is rocking strong with their debut “Break Down & Cry” (Ravaka). NMA winner Marsha Jewell’s “Butterfly” (Jewell Lane) continues its winning ways and Allen D, Also an NMA winner is moving towards the top with his stellar “You & the Night & the Music”. A complete list of winners for this year’s New Music Awards can be found in this issue. Congrats to all!
