Taylor Swift Continues To Amaze Us
Taylor Swift continues to amaze us at Country (and other formats). Not only did she just come off another #1 with “Highway Don’t Care” featuring Tim McGraw, her new single “Red” (Big Machine/ Universal) the title song from her current CD is on fire. Newcomer Cassadee Pope that first came to our attention through The Voice on NBC has got a Country hit in the making. “Wasting All These Tears” (Republic Nashville) is the gem that we are talking about. The song is coming up every four hours in Los Angeles at KKGO (Go-Country) in Los Angeles and the same story is happening all over the USA. It will be interesting to see how much real support she can muster up in the weeks to come. Keith Urban has one of the best songs out at Country radio. “Little Bit Of Everything” (Capitol) is perfect for summer, tells a nice story and is oh so Keith. Craig Morgan is building a bonfire for his latest entry. “Wake Up Lovin’ You” (Black River) is his new one and it’s a real winner. I also really love the new Darius Rucker single “Radio” (Capitol/EMI). This guy has such a distinct vocal sound and style and all of us are so happy that he has made such a brilliant and well received move over to the Country format. Kellie Pickler who is still basking in the glory of winning Dancing With The Stars, is also keeping her recording chops in check. “Someone Somewhere Tonight” (Black River) is her latest offering and we all pulling for her over here. Tim McGraw keeps the hits moving at his new label. “Southern Girl” (Big Machine/Universal) shows Tim at his very best and the Southern girls are loving this one big time. Toby Keith is also back at it in a big way just in time for Summer fun. “Drinks After Work” (Show Dog/Universal) plays to his crowd in a very big way and his strong legend of fans are behind this one 100%. Chris Young has got a good thing going in Country and make no mistake about it. “Aw Naw” (RCA Nashville) is the new one from Chris and our program and music directors from coast to coast are all over this one. Hunter Hayes continues in his quest to becoming the male counterpart to Taylor Swift. His guitar playing is not too bad either as he takes “I Want Crazy” (Atlantic/WEA) to the top of the charts. Also getting plenty of spin action this week is Jason Aldean with his powerful “Night Train”(Broken Bow/Sony) single. Lady A or should I say Lady Antebellum are also pulling in strong numbers for their latest single entitled “Goodbye Town” (Capitol). It’s another excellent track from this outfit. The Eli Young Band are making the most of their long hot summer. “Drunk Last Night” (Republic Nashville) is the one that radio is raving about and for good reason. Recording artist Mike Aiken has a song that is fit for this time of year. You still have plenty of time left to add and enjoy his “Summertime Song” (NorthWind). Henningsens is also getting some attention at the format with “I Miss You”. The Coleman Brothers have a new hit that’s building fast. Make sure you check out “Back On The Farm” (Fishing Hole) and see what all the fuss is all about. You will be so very glad you did. The Florida Georgia Line can count on this being an award winning year. No new Country act is hotter right now. Their new single “Round Here” (Universal Republic) just proves our point. Billy White Jr is building quite the story at Country radio. “Don’t Leave Me Standing Here” (Ayemaydah) is the latest from this super talented recording artist. Speaking of super talent, Kelly Parkes is already working on a Christmas CD album and single. In addition to that, she has a new book that also becomes part of her new project. We’ve been getting raves about her live performances at the recent CMA Festival in Nashville and she has a big fan base building along with the support from all of us at New Music Weekly. I’ll have more for you on the greatest Country Hits of the year next time.
