Pulling Down Your Pants At Top40
Gwen Stefani is back at Top40 radio with one of her best single to date in “Make Me Like You” (Interscope). The song was actually premiered as a “live video” during this year’s Grammy Awards and that most certainly turned out to be a winning decision in helping to break this new one wide open. Watch for some very big weeks ahead for this gem. Also making waves at the format is Troye Sivan. The track “Youth” (Capitol) is an out of the box smash and it’s getting some stellar support from many of our music and program directors. I can’t recall such a major push by a label on a new artist as much as I’m seeing with this new release so that must really mean something.
Lukas Graham is making a debut stand and in a very big way. “7 Years” (WB/WEA) is his introduction to radio and what a breaker this has turned out to be. It’s not only a Top40 smash but our friends across formats at Hot AC are also finding this to be pure magic. The ever fabulous American Nomads are breaking the walls down at radio. “Revelation” (Motovun) is the one that has many of our music and program directors declaring this to be a monster hit single. We’ll see how it all pans out in the weeks to come but so far you can put a big star on this winner.
Zayn is fast becoming the talk of the town at Top40. “Pillowtalk” (Syco/RCA) is the jam that you need to be on if you are not already. This one has #1 written all over it so need I say more. Mike Posner actually has the surprise hit of 2016. His “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” (Monster Mountain/Island) is such a huge record that it just can’t be denied. Also not being denied is the always dangerous Taylor Swift. Her latest and greatest in “New Romantics” (Big Machine/Universal) is running up the charts by leaps and bounds just like every one of her singles have done so far. Watch for yet another #1 for her with this powerful cut.
Alessia Cara is a newcomer that needs to be attended to. Her latest in “Wild Things” (EP Entertainment/Def Jam/Universal) keeps this new talent ahead of the pack in every way. The pairing of icon Rihanna and the always loved and popular Drake is pulling in some strong dividends. “Work” (Roc Nation) is the track that many of you are loving big time and for good reason, as it’s a solid hit duet. Jeremih is back at it with more musical magic. “Oui” (DefJam/IDJMG) is the track that is really one of his best to date.
Kid Ink has teamed up with the masterful Fetty Wap to bring us a winning combination. “Promise” (Alumni Music Group/88 Classic/RCA) is the song that everybody seems to be buzzing about and the listeners agree. Leslie Becker is getting good reviews for the new single “Slow Burn” (AP Music). Fifth Harmony and their new best friend Ty Dolla Sign have released “Work From Home” (Syco/Epic). It has to be one of the groups best to date so we’ll have to see just how this all works out for them and Simon Cowell.
Nelly is getting some real love at the format and make no mistake about that. His “Die A Happy Man” (Records) puts him back on top where he belongs. Meghan Trainor has a new monster record on her hands. “NO” (Epic) is the track that is setting the music world on fire. G Eazy & Bebe Rexha have it all going with “Me, Myself & I” (BPG/RVG/RCA),
Victor Solomon continues to work his magic with “I’m Not Your Boyfriend” (Indie) & we may also have something new from him this summer as well.
Mirage Box are big time NMA winners and they have a big hit single to add to that. Everybody just loves their latest “Secret Smile” (Growlyman Endeavors) and we do to. Also getting raves is NMA winner Chuck Murphy who has a great new single on his hands called “Falling Star” (One West). The Kaj Brothers continue their winning ways with “The Way You Look Tonight” (Living fuel). Newcomer Dianne Meinke is getting raves for her new “Ten Thousand More” (UVI) and Jimmy White is breaking fast with his fabulous “Michaela” (828). Brandy Moss Scott is breaking big with her stellar “Oh How It Hurst” (Heavenly Tunes) and Airy Jeanine is moving to the top with her masterful “Do You” (Kmina ent). I’ll have more for you next time right here my good friends.
