One Republic Continues To Rock
One Republic continues to rock the Top40 world with every single release. Their latest in “Love Runs Out” (Interscope) keeps this red hot act moving ahead of the pack. It has to be one of their best singles to date and the stats tell the tale. The band Magic is most certainly making some magic at radio. “Rude” (RCA/RLG) has been on-fire since its release and there is every indicator that they are looking at their first #1 single. For a new act, one can only hope that there is a follow-up in the mix. Jennifer Lopez continues to charm her way up the charts. She pulls out all of the stops (and so does Capitol) in the very delicious and cleaver “First Love” (Capitol/EMI). We’ll see how it all plays out for Jennifer in the coming weeks but all bets are on that this track has serious potential Maroon 5 continue to work it strong at multi-formats. Adam Levine and company are getting raves from radio and the fans for their current offering in “Maps” (222/Interscope) and for very good reason. It’s without a doubt the best sounding release from this act ever. I’m happy to see that the young and talented Ariana Grande is really making her mark at Top40 and just about everywhere else too. “Problem” (Universal Republic) has raced to the top of the charts and in record time, putting this young talent right where she belongs. Pharrell Williams can do no wrong. The mastermind behind “Happy”, “Blurred Lines” and Daft Punk has come full circle. His latest in “Come Get It Bae” (Columbia/Sony) is not one of his all-time best but it will do for a Summer hit to be sure. One Direction keeps their teen fans cooing. They do it well again as “You And I” (Syco/Columbia) takes flight. This keeps their king and ruler Simon Cowell a very happy new father. Demi Lovato has teamed up with talented Cher Lloyd and the results are stellar. Our panel of music and program directors continues to rave about the “Really Don’t Care” (Hollywood) duet. Tiesto and recording artist Matthew Koma are making beautiful music together. The single “Wasted” (Universal Republic) is pulling in some rather impressive numbers so early in the game. This is an indicator that big things are about to happen. Nicki Minaj keeps her strange music thing going and she displays it very well in the new single “Pills And Potions” (Young Money/Cash Money/Republic). A good example (no doubt) to the young people in America. How about those Madden Brothers? Out of the blue their newly released single entitled “We Are Done” (Capitol) is totally killing it at radio. You can bet that the brass over at Capitol are on board big time to make this single happen. Charli XCX continues her sexy ways in the single “Boom Clap” (Atlantic/WEA). It is delicious. And speaking of sexy, how about the Naked Cowgirl?! We first caught her act on America’s Got Talent when she performed “I Love Nick” (Sexy Records) to the surprised and embarrassed Nick Cannon and now her single is taking off at radio “big time”. Remember that you heard and read about the Naked Cowgirl first right here on the pages of New Music Weekly magazine. The American Authors are beginning to rule the radio world thanks in part to the follow-up to “Best Days OF Our Lives. Now they are marching to “Believer” (IDJMG) and it seems to be working. Benzo continues to impress the format with his powerful “Heartbeat”. Newcomer Brandy Moss Scott is pulling in stations at every turn with her brilliant rendition of “Benny & The Jets” (Heavenly Tunes). Marsha Jewel is moving fast as her new “Tomorrow” (Jewel Lane) take flight. Giulia Nahmany is off and running as her “Girl To Change Your World” (Goldline) rules the radio world. I’ll have more for you next time right here. Now let’s go out and have the best Summer ever!
