In response to the catastrophic wildfires sweeping through California, Meruelo Media, Southern California’s largest minority-owned media cluster, has announced a partnership with the American Red Cross to assist those affected by the disaster. The collaboration aims to mobilize community support and facilitate recovery in the hardest-hit areas.

Meruelo Media’s KPWR (Power 106), KLOS 95.5, KLLI (CALI 93.9) and KDAY 93.5, are at the forefront of this initiative, providing continuous emergency coverage and vital information. These stations have become critical communication channels, offering real-time updates and connecting displaced and affected residents with essential services and aid.

Meruelo Media Head of Audio Brands Pio Ferro emphasized the pivotal role of radio in crises, stating, “Radio remains a trusted source that can quickly provide lifesaving information and bring together community resources in times of need.”

The wildfires, described as one of the worst disasters in California’s history, have drastically altered the landscape of Los Angeles, destroying areas more than double the size of Manhattan, claiming lives, and displacing thousands of residents. In these trying times, Meruelo Media’s commitment to serving its community shines through.

Meruelo Media President Otto Padron highlighted the unique role of local broadcasting during emergencies: “When all else fails-power, connectivity, direction-radio is the steadfast voice that guides us through the darkest times, ensuring that vital information reaches those who need it most.”

Beyond immediate disaster response, Meruelo Media has a long-standing tradition of community engagement and support, ranging from blood drives to major fundraising initiatives for causes like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Meruelo Group Chief Purpose and Vision Officer Alexis Meruelo affirmed the company’s dedication to rebuilding efforts: “Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by these tragic fires. By partnering with the American Red Cross, we are taking active steps to aid in the recovery and rebuild the communities we hold dear.”

The public is encouraged to support these efforts by donating to the American Red Cross. Contributions can be made through the dedicated web page.
