KRBE’s ”Turkey Tour” Collects Over 3,000 Pounds of Food
In a display of community spirit and generosity, KRBE-FM in Houston successfully orchestrated the 2nd Annual Turkey Tour with hosts Kevin & Audrey, garnering a substantial donation of 873 Hunger Bags totaling 3,000 pounds of food for the Houston Food Bank. The event, held from November 1-5, was part of a broader effort to combat food insecurity in the Houston area, where 1 in 8 residents faces food shortages daily.
Broadcast live from various Kroger locations across Houston, Katy, League City, New Caney and Cypress, TX, the Turkey Tour engaged listeners with music, giveaways and a call to action to support their fellow Houstonians. The tour featured appearances by KRBE personalities, handing out Turkey Tour t-shirts, Kroger shopping cards and other prizes, culminating in one lucky listener winning a year’s supply of groceries valued at $5,000.
KRBE Content Director Leslie Whittle expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community. “Our listeners and partners have shown immense generosity. It’s heartwarming to see our community come together to provide for those in need during the holidays,” Whittle stated.
On-air host Kevin Quinn reflected on the impact of the tour, noting, “Being out in the community, interacting with our listeners, and making a direct impact on hunger locally is incredibly rewarding. The enthusiasm and support from our audience have been phenomenal.”
Co-host Audrey Rose shared a personal connection to the cause, highlighting the importance of the initiative. “Having experienced food insecurity, it’s crucial for us to give back. We are thankful for our listeners’ generosity, which has allowed us to make a significant difference in the lives of many,” Rose remarked.
The Turkey Tour not only emphasized the importance of community support during Food Insecurity Month but also strengthened the bond between the station and its listeners, proving once again that radio can be a powerful tool for social change.
