Keith Urban Doesn’t Really Need American Idol
Keith Urban doesn’t really need American Idol to keep his Country power but it most certainly helps. “Little Bit Of Everything” (Capitol) from Keith underscores just why he is such a force in Country music. The Florida Georgia Line can’t be any hotter. Not only are they crossing formats, they are taking their new single “Round Here” (Universal Republic) for a ride and it’s exploding all over Country radio. I really love the new track from he talented Chris Young called “Aw Naw” (RCA Nashville). You may want to spend some time with this one if you haven’t already added it to a top rotation. Lady Antebellum has another gem on their hands with “Goodbye Town” (Capitol) and good for them. Lee Brice is taking full advantage of the Summer of 2013. So much so that he and his label have pulled out all the stops for the new “Parking Lot Party” (Curb). Timing is everything and Curb Records really wants this one big time. Dierks Bentley is always up for a good time. He shows it well with his stellar vocal performance of the new “Bourbon In Kentucky” (Capitol). Randy Houser is making the most of his Summer and for good reason. It seems that many of our music and program directors just can’t seem to get enough of his “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” (Stoney Creek/Sony) single. We’ll see how that all plays out for Randy in the weeks to come but so far so good. Kenny Chesney who seems to have taken a page or two from Jimmy Buffett is back at it for his favorite time of year. “When I See This Bar” (Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville) is his latest and greatest as he keeps pace with the best of them out in Country. The field is the most crowded that I’ve seen in quite some time so the heat is on Kenny and every Country artist to step it up a few extra notches. Lennon & Maisy are taking their “Ho Hey” (Big Machine/Universal) rendition out to the format and it’s working. Luke Bryan is having himself another blockbuster summer. He’s also getting raves and lots of spins for “Crash My Party” (Capitol Nashville). American Idol icon Carrie Underwood is also keeping pace with the best of them as her “See You Again” (Arista Nashville) takes flight. AJ Croce is getting quite the buzz at Country and make no mistake about that. “Right On Time” (Seedling) is the single that seems to be making a huge impact with our many music and program directors. Chris Leigh has teamed up with The Broken Hearts for a duet jam that is out of this world. “Whiskey River” (Blue River) is the single that has a major buzz going with music critics and programmers alike. Make sure you check out the latest entry from recording artist J Micheal Laferty. There are no punches being pulled for the new “Get To The Point” (Umpqua). Taylor Made is having another great summer and I can tell you that straight up my friends. “That’s How I Roll” (Little General) is their latest slice of heaven and it underscores why they are one of the best Country Indie outfits around. Billy Currington continues his winning ways at Country radio. Make sure you give up a few extra spins for his brilliant “Hey Girl” (Mercury). Hunter Hayes continues to amaze us with his many talents. He does so once again in“I Want Crazy” (Atlantic/WEA). Kacey Musgraves is one of the hottest rising stars. We met her years ago when she was on the show Nashville Star. Finally her star is rising and make sure you lend her a hand with new “Blowin’ Smoke”. Blake Shelton has himself a pretty good group of background singers in the Pistol Annies & Friends. If I’m not mistaken there is a girl named Miranda Lambert in that bunch. Regardless of the connections and help, the single “Boys ‘Round Here” (WB/WEA) is set to become Blake’s next #1 single and for good reason, it’s Hot! Thanks for all of your well wishes and concerns over the past few weeks and it’s great to know that I have such a great support system out there. I’ll have more for you on the greatest Country songs as we continue are journey together right here on the pages of New Music Weekly Magazine.
