Katy Perry Continues Her Winning Ways
Katy Perry continues her winning ways at radio with another #1 single. “Roar” (Capitol) looks to be one of her biggest hits to date and being that it’s the first single from her new album, that sets things up for many future hits to come. Justin Timberlake keeps hit after hit flowing and going. “TKO” (RCA/RLG) is just another one to add to the list. Seems that he has about 3-4 singles on the charts at the same time these days. Rihanna continues to keep her string of hits alive and well. Her latest “What Now” (IDJMG) is fast becoming a solid favorite among many of our music and program directors. Some have expressed that this single is one of her very best. We’ll see how it all plays out very soon. Miley Cyrus may have turned into a maniac but it might all be a justified pattern. Her latest single “Wrecking Ball” (RCA/RLG) is actually quite an amazing song and make no mistake about it, this young lady knows exactly what she’s doing and so do her handlers. The boys we have come to know as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis continue to seek and build their fortunes at Top40 radio. This time out they’ve enlisted good friend Schoolboy Q for the new “White Walls” (WB/WEA). These guys know exactly what they are doing and have become a shining light for what can be accomplished running your own independent label.
Everybody seems to be loving Lorde. To be honest, I really didn’t get this record but upon a few more listens I must admit to taking a liking to “Royals” (Lava/Republic). The label has been sticking with it as well and it’s beginning to pay off some huge dividends. Also adding to a music stock portfolio is Bruno Mars. He can now jot down “Gorilla” (Atlantic/WEA) as another legit hit to his already huge collection. Avicii has got a good thing going and make no mistake about it. “Wake Me Up”(Pm:Am/Universal) is the track that is fast becoming a real favorite among our panel of radio stations. Ariana Grande seems to be making all the right moves these days. “Right There” (Universal Republic) is the jam that I’m talking about. If you don’t believe me just give it a few spins and watch what happens. One of my favorite new bands in Imagine Dragons continues to amaze out there at radio. “Demons” (Interscope) is their latest offering and the song continues to show us just how deep their musical treasure is. Not since Coldplay have we seen an act build solid numbers at this early part of their career. Keep your eyes and ears on this act and just watch what happens in the months to come for them . Matt Gonzo Roehr is off to a stellar start with his latest single. “Dreamer” (Gonzo) is the song that has been at the top of our “most added” list for the past several weeks and the best is yet to come. Dream Logic have a good thing going and make no mistake about it. Their debut single “Emoco” (Chaos Music Company) is fast becoming a real favorite among our music and program directors. Frank D`Angelo is back with a new solid hit single. “Break It Down” (BKCI) is the latest from the multi-talented Frank and this single has what it takes to go all the way to the top of the charts. Selena Gomez continues her winning ways at the format. “Slow Down” (Hollywood) is yet another gem from this young talent. Allen D keeps rocking strong with his latest. The single “In The Still Of the Night” (New Terra) has been a winner from its first week out. Bill Songy continues his major moves as “Dreamin’” (Franzia) has become a huge single. Marsha Jewell continues to build her music fortunes in a very big way. “You” (Jewell Lane) is the single that’s moving up fast. Zack Dust has done amazing job with his debut single “Good Morning California”. Alina Artts is closing in on the top spot with her debut hit smash “Hit The Red Light” (R.E.C.). I’ll have more next time right here my good friends.
