ABOUT THE SONG: The idea for ‘Beautiful Universe’ came while I was backpacking through Guatemala. One day, I took a minibus from Rio Dulce to Tikal. During this ride, I realized how despite our cultural differences and backgrounds, our human experiences are remarkably similar. Across from me sat a young mother with her two children, next to them was an elderly lady coming back from the market, and behind me, a middle-aged man heading home from work. Each person on that bus reminded me of someone from my own family.

What struck me the most was the kindness of everyone. I was a foreigner and clearly out of place, yet, despite the language barrier, the young mother and elderly lady kept offering me their snacks and wanted to ensure I knew how to get where I was going. This experience stuck with me long after I returned from my trip and eventually inspired the lyrics: ‘We are from the same dust. We are all we’ve got. Just a drop of light in the ocean of our vast and beautiful universe.’

ABOUT THE ARTIST: South African-born, Canadian singer-songwriter & producer, Francois Klark (Francois Clark Mulder), is a JUNO-nominated Universal Music Award winner who has opened for such acts as Grammy winner Jon Bellion (Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Eminem). He has shared stages with top Canadian and international artists including Shawn Desman, Karl Wolf, and Ginuwine.
