Julia Jade’s Indie Pop Anthem “missin’ out” Finds Magic In Uncertainty

“Involuntary twee” songwriter Julia Jade has returned with an introspective and empowering single, “missin’ out,” an uplifting and honest reflection on how fear can push us forward instead of holding us back. Known for her catchy indie pop melodies and charming lyricism, she fuses poignant honesty with theatrical sensibilities to take a genre-spanning approach to self-reflection and storytelling. Both uplifting and sentimental, “missin’ out” is now available to stream and download on all platforms.

Julia Jade initially wrote “missin’ out” at the age of 19 while feeling both awe-inspired and overwhelmed, breaking into the music scene, and shaped the tune around how self-doubt can be a push towards reaching greater heights. “This song encapsulates that time and feeling, and serves as a reminder that courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the ability to push through it,” she explains. Weaving together sincere, conversational lyricism and layered guitar and bass instrumentals, “missin’ out” is less about overcoming fear and more about harnessing it to take risks and live boldly despite self-doubt. It’s about finding that person who makes taking risks a little less scary and a lot more worthwhile. “I’ll always be scared / of things I care about / but I should take a chance on something, maybe even ask you out,” she sings tenderly. The track’s inviting and energetic atmosphere is shaped by a cast of talented players, including Michelle Boni (guitar), Ivan Krnic (bass), and Francesca Pratt (drums), with mixing by Sebastian Hadl. Produced and written by Julia Jade, her unique approach to storytelling and musicality makes “missin’ out” a rich, genre-spanning track.

Born and raised in a music and comedy-filled home in LA, Julia Jade was immersed in creativity and entertainment from a young age. Channeling indie and twee pop of the early 2000s and 2010s, Julia Jade draws comparison to a diverse range of artists from Ingrid Michaelson and Rilo Kiley to Bo Burnham, adding in distinct, modern flair and elements from her background in musical theater. Through refining her approach to merging alt-pop elements with theatrical songwriting and storytelling, she has shaped her memorable sound as immersive and authentically quirky. Skipping the 11th grade to attend Berklee College of Music after auditioning with her original song “February Flowers,” Julia Jade worked to refine her sound and find her style of balancing introspection with humor. Beyond her solo work, she created and continues to produce and headline bi-monthly pajama-themed music series “Slumber Party Sessions” at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. With an emphasis on inclusion and community building, Julia Jade’s musical pursuits all echo her focus on affirming vulnerability and individuality.

An open-hearted affirmation of resilience and vulnerability, Julia Jade’s “missin’ out” is a song about refusing to let self-doubt get in the way of moving forward and taking risks.
