On his long-awaited solo debut Damaged Novelties, singer-songwriter/guitarist and indie mainstay Paul Kalil combines keen underground instincts with a natural flair for hooks, resulting in some of the most anthemic rock music to emerge on either side of the indie/mainstream divide. After kicking around for decades as a member of bands like Snow Glob Mules, Pong Star, The Trousers, and NDH, Kalil steps into the spotlight with the aptly named Paul Kalil and the Local Professionals. Damaged Novelties may be a quote-unquote “solo” release, but Kalil certainly had a little help from some friends, assembling an indie-rock dream team consisting of Jason Narducy (Bob Mould, Superchunk, Sunny Day Real Estate), Matt Walker (Morrissey, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Filter), Nora O’Connor (Decemberists, Neko Case, New Pornographers), Steve Dawson (Dolly Varden, Funeral Bonsai Wedding), Josh Gilbert (Live.In.Lover, Snow Globe Mules), and Vijay Tellis Nayak (Kick the Cat, Jennifer Hudson).
