INDIE AC FEATURE
Rachel Platten has a good thing going and make no mistake about that. Her “Fight Song” (Columbia) is helping to launch her career in a very big way and many of our music and program directors are raving about her. Watch for some big moves ahead for this super talented recording artist. Jason Derulo has one of the best songs of his amazing career and it could not come at a better time for him. “Want To Want Me” (Beluga Heights/WB) shines as a super melodic throw back to years past and this one my friends is headed to the very top of the charts. The song will no doubt keep Jason ahead of the pack in so many ways and it’s just the break he needed at this point in time.
The Sam Smith pairing with John Legend for a brand new take on his hit single “Lay Me Down” (Capitol) is actually bringing the song back to radio. Already a smash hit, the song now gets an early facelift and the results may provide a hit all over again. Alabama Shakes are getting a strong buzz at the format. “Don’t Wanna Fight” (Ind) is the cut that many of you are loving and for good reason. OAR is back and that’s always a good thing for radio. “Two Hands Up” (Vanguard) is another brilliant offering for this super talented outfit. We just hope that it gets the shot it so deserves and you can help make all the difference.
Kerris & Justine Dorsey keep building their good fortunes at radio and although it’s been taking some time it seems to be paying off. “Best Worst Day Ever” (Walt Disney) is the gem that we are talking about and please give this a shot if you haven’t already. The pairing of Pitbull & NeYo has brought great rewards to the both of them. “Time Of Our Lives” (Mr 305/Polo Grounds Music/RCA) is fast becoming a music pop anthem and the spins continues across formats. Another stellar pairing in Wiz Khalifah with Charlie Ruth is also setting the music world on fire. “See You Again” (Atlantic) is the gem we are talking about and this one is “on fire” and make no mistake about it.
Newcomer Jillian Kohr has got a good thing going. Her debut single “The Way That I Love You” (Black Cherry) is killing it at radio and what an amazing vocalist this young lady is.
Chakra Bleu is back with a gem that deserves your immediate attention. “All Of Me” (1746) is a really winner and it’s already a “most added” from coast to coast. Many of you are also loving the new Bernie Townsend who brings us “Just Won’t Touch Me Now” (Gravel Road). You may want to throw a few extra spins in for this gem.
Recording artist Chris Cox is crossing over his debut single from Country to AC. “Sunday Morning Guitar” (CMM) is the perfect crossover and our programmers all agree on this gem. Carl Wockner is winning raves and proise for “Crayon Days” (Possum/Universal) and it’s all quite well deserved. Parker Harrison has a good thing going with “ Love Changes Everything”. Brandy Moss Scott continues her winning ways with her brilliant “Bye Bye Baby” (Heavenly Tunes) that is destined for #1 soon. Mirage Box also continues ever so strong with their brilliant “Juarez” (Growlyman Endeavors).
Tony Clarke is winning friend with his powerful “Raise The Track Up” (Coast). Our new favorite solo artist Nate Ruess continues ever so strong with his “Nothing Without Love” (Fueled By Ramen) single. Walk The Moon has one of the best songs out there and are building their new fortune as “Shut Up And Dance” (RCA/RLG) is fast becoming a solid music anthem in record time. The pairing of Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding is paying off as their single “Outside” (Columbia) keeps building strong. Indie artist Bill Curreri reached #1 on our AC40 chart with “Fade Away” so a big congrats to him. This is our annual Indie Artists issue so check out the rest of the winners in this issue.
