Backyard Wrestling wins SAMMY Award for Best Rock Recording
Backyard Wrestling have won the prestigious SAMMY Award for Best Rock Recording for their latest album JORTS, solidifying their place as one of the most electrifying musical acts to emerge from Upstate New York. The award was announced at the annual Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYs) on March 7th at The Palace Theater, a celebration of the region’s most talented and innovative musicians.
JORTS has captivated fans and critics alike with its unforgettable hooks, clever lyrics, and undeniable spirit. Featuring tracks like “Weekend Warrior” and “A Song That No One Knows”, the album is equal parts humorous and heartfelt, embodying the same attitude as the ripped denim shorts that the band wears on stage: raw, unapologetic, and built for a good time.
“We would like to acknowledge the SAMMY awards for creating a denim-inclusive space”, said Backyard Wrestling’s lead singer Arison Cain. “Upstate New York has no shortage of talented musicians, and we are grateful to the SAMMY’s for recognizing the caliber of our JORTS.”
The self-proclaimed “Undisputed World Heavyweight Champions of Suplex Rock”, Backyard Wrestling was founded by brothers Arison Cain and Adam Londraville in Alexandria Bay, NY in 2016. The current lineup of the band includes renowned Northern New York musicians Matthew Corey (Greene Reveal) and Mark Getman (Doc Yukon). JORTS was produced by Arison Cain, mixed by the band’s bass player Matthew Corey, and mastered by Grammy Award-Winning Engineer Hans DeKline (Pixies, Lisa Loeb, U2). The album was engineered by Andre Cantave at Same Sky Productions in Austin, TX.
Since their inception, Backyard Wrestling has built a reputation around Upstate New York and beyond for their powerful and audacious live performances; channeling the spirit of classic rock and the pageantry of professional wrestling. Their journey from a bedroom in the Thousand Islands to award-winning artists is a testament to their passion and resilience.
The SAMMY Award marks a major milestone in the band’s career, setting the stage for their next release, Black Denim.
“We are already in the studio working on the follow-up,” says Arison Cain.
“We are doubling down on the denim”.
