Country Best Summer
Thomas Rhett has made quite the name for himself at Country radio. He’s now getting additional love and respect for his new single “Make Me Wanna” (Big Machine/Universal) that should build his already hot stock even further. Chris Young appears to be on the verge of having another hit single. “Lonely Eyes” (RCA Nashville) is another gem from this multi-talented Country recording artist and this one deserves your immediate attention. You can’t get any hotter than Cole Swindell. He seems to be on everybody’s top10 list and for good reason. His “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight” (Warner Music Nashville) is just what we are talking about.
Those Florida Georgia Line boys keep rolling in the money and in the hits. Their latest offering in “Dirt” (Republic Nashville) keeps these boys ahead of the pack to be sure. I really like the new Jake Owen’s track. “What We Ain’t Got” (RCA Nashville) is the one we’re talking about but we’ll see what the RCA Nashville people are up to with this one. Rising star Jerrod Niemann is a real favorite among our music and program directors. They all just can’t see to get enough of “Buzz Back Girl” (Sea Gayle/Arista Nashville). We’ll see how this one plays out in the weeks to come but so far so good.
Brett Eldredge is most certainly a great rising star. He’s pulling in votes and calls by the droves for his new “Mean To Me” (Atlantic Nashville). You may want to pay some very special attention to this one in the weeks to come. Chase Bryant has got a good thing going now at Country radio. He brings it all up a few notches with the single “Take It Back” (Red Bow/Sony) and radio appears to be loving this one. We have mentioned great things about this new rising star here at New Music Weekly and we are proud to be one of the first trade publications to sing his praises.
John King is no doubt a talent to be considered. Many of you out there are raving about the track “Tonight Tonight” (Black River) and for good reason, it’s just solid Country. I have to put in a good word regarding Tyler Farr (although he really doesn’t need one). His single entitled “A Guy Walks Into A Bar” (Columbia Nashville) is just too cool for school. I hope that radio gives it a fair shake and puts some well- deserved spins action behind this very cleaver and well written song.
Maddie & Tae have come up with a very cleaver song and it’s paying off in leaps and bounds. “Girl In A Country Song” (Dot) is really cleaver and so is the video. These two gals are getting raves reviews from social media and these days that’s what it’s all about. Check them out on You-Tube. Sam Austin is making a great name for himself at Country radio. “When She Does It” (Plateau) is his latest single and our panel of music and program directors are all giving this one a big thumbs up. Recording artist Da Cole has a lot to rave about. His new and red hot “Red Light Green Light” (Durango Music) is excellent and this one should be on the top of your list.
Kenny Chesney is making the most of the end of Summer with a wild-fire hit single. His current “American Kids” (Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville) might be a little rip on Jack & Dianne but who cares, it’s excellent. Rascal Flatts are rocking strong and make no mistake about that. Their new “Payback” (Big Machine/Universal) is just what the doctor ordered. Keith Urban has another gem on his hands. “Somewhere In My Car” (Capitol Nashville) the follow-up to “Cop Car” is his latest and greatest. He comes to Los Angeles this week and to other parts of the USA for some great live shows. Luke Bryan is on the fast track once again. He’s pulling in huge numbers for his current “Roller Coaster” (Capitol Nashville) and should we be surprised. Have a great rest of the Summer of 2014 my friends.
