Everybody Appears To Really Be Loving Capital Cities
Everybody appears to really be loving the new band Capital Cities. Their “Safe And Sound” (Capitol/EMI) has taken awhile to take hold but the label has stuck with this gem and good things are really starting to happen for them. We’re also thrilled for Sara Bareilles. She is an amazing talent and is finally getting some well-deserved attention for her current single “Brave” (Epic/Sony). Many of our music and program directors are all over this track and we should see some amazing things in the weeks and months to come from this super talented artist. Jason Derulo is getting a lot of support from the Hot AC format and all it took was the right record. “The Other Side” (Beluga Heights/WB) is strong and powerful and with a chorus like that you really can’t go wrong. We’re thrilled to see Rod Stewart back on the charts. For the past year and a half he’s been over at Studio City Sound working on his album and his current single “Can’t Stop Me Now” (Capitol) gives you a little showcase on just how good Rod still is in today’s pop music field. Also getting some attention and in a very big way is recording artist Anna Kendrick. Her single “Cups” (Republic/Universal/Mercury) is becoming a real favorite among radio programmers and for good reason. Emeli Sande continues to win the hearts and minds of radio here in the USA. This British beauty is now strutting the single “Suitcase” (Capitol) which shows even more promise that her first single.
Rihanna has joined forces once again with her good pal David Guetta and once again the magic happens. “Right Now” (DefJam) is a pure delight that should get your phones ringing off the hook. Katy Perry is finally back with a new single and album. There is quite a buzz going for Katy as her single “Roar” (Capitol) takes flight. There has been a bit of controversy that this song sounds a lot like the Sara Bareilles track but controversy is nothing new to Katy and the two can always fight it out with the US Copyright office. Pink is getting raves for her latest entry. “True Love” (RCA/RLG) is just what her fans seem to have for her and radio agrees with them big time. Florida Georgia Line keep pulling in spins at Hot AC. Taking their new pal Nelly with them has proven to be a smart move as their “Cruise Remix” (Republic Nashville) keeps rocking big time. John Mayer is still relevant at radio and that makes Katy Perry a happy gal. “Paper Doll” (Columbia/Sony) is the track that seems to be working for John and we will see how it all plays out for him in the coming weeks. Newcomer Matt Hutchinson has got a good thing going with “Watermelon Skies”. You may want to give it a few spins this week.
MacLear & Quinn seem to be heading in the right direction. Their “Sweet Summer Days” (Meg) is strong and one of the best Indie records out. You will no doubt be hearing quite a lot about The Dream Logic. Their debut single entitled “Emoco” (Chaos Music Company) already has an advance buzz that tells us something big is about to happen. Remember that you heard and read about the Dream Logic first right here at New Music Weekly. Frank D’Angelo has a brilliant new single out. “Break It Down” (BKCI) is already creating quite the buzz and will be worth your time for sure. Allen D is pulling in raves for his current single “In The Still Of the Night” that is moving rapidly up our AC charts and for good reason. Bill Songy is having a stellar run with his sweet “Dreamin’” (Franzia) single.
