Kay tear Shares New Self-Produced R&B Single “celestial existence”

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer Kay tear is proud to announce her new single “celestial existence”: a dark, intimate, bass-heavy journey through the remaining memories of an unfaithful relationship. A stunning transmutation of pain into glitchy, intricate soundscapes, “celestial existence” exemplifies the breathtaking raw power of a truly “self-produced artist”.

Kay tear (kati儿) is technically and most simply a producer, singer, and pianist writing pop indie and alternative r&b. But on a deeper and more intimate level, she blends vocals, timbres, and harmonies of whichever genres are needed to get the story across.

This means that in a single body of work, she arranges ambient choir and free tempo Hisaishi strings (next to/on top of) MF DOOM-style drums, jazz sax, flute (next to/under) a warm alto voice reminiscent of King Princess and Hope Tala, searching for and excavating a resonance that she feels–and you will feel too–when the right pieces are put perfectly together.

“celestial existence” was recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely by Kay tear. Flute samples were recorded by Robin Wong in a free improv session, then picked out and chopped by Kay. A full breakdown of the production process and musical elements is scheduled to premiere on Youtube on November 21.

Kay will be performing the song in a live looping solo set using Ableton Live and the Osmose MPE keyboard, at FirstLive Brooklyn on November 14. Tickets available here. The performance will be followed by a community “aapijam”: a monthly improvised jam hosted by Kay for AAPI, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and women musicians in New York City, raising funds for community mutual aid.
