Ren Genevieve’s Debut EP tongue tied Is Unafraid To Explore The “What-Ifs”

Rising pop singer-songwriter Ren Genevieve has shared her debut EP, tongue tied. Composed of five deeply vulnerable and authentic songs, she bravely puts her heart and soul on her sleeve in each track. tongue tied invites listeners to join the artist in this shared experience of growing up, an era of inviting change but also being afraid of what’s to come. Ren Genevieve’s EP is now available on all major streaming platforms.

tongue tied weaves a tale through the lens of Ren Genevieve’s eyes as a young adult. A collection of “snapshots of emotion,” she explains, this EP highlights “a time in [her] life that featured great change—starting university, becoming an adult, and finding [her] own strength and power.” Genevieve describes the five tracks—”tongue tied,” “space,” “michigan,” “forts,” and “gods to ground”—as a culmination of scenarios like the following: “What if your friends don’t stand up for you when you need them to? What if you tell the boy you’re falling in love with him? What if you let the boy go but he’s still there? What if you grow up and it’s bittersweet?” However, the biggest question she wants listeners to take away is “What if you dance in your confidence?” These songs acknowledge that, while we all struggle with change, it is up to us to take the wheel and control our own narrative. For Genevieve, this means facing the music and singing her heart out. Lyrics like, “take me back to when I couldn’t even stand your tone…but now I think I could use the change,” from “forts,” a song about reminiscing on the comforts of childhood, or “won’t stand by my side when I need you so I’m leaving for the last time,” from the title track, “tongue tied,” show the evolutionary journey the singer takes the audience on. The EP is a sonically layered story, full of evocative lyrics and dynamic vocals. With tongue tied, Genevieve has been able to create something special that not only resonates amongst young adults but is infused with her distinct touch as well. When asked who a key inspiration in her musical journey is, she immediately thinks of Miley Cyrus. Cyrus’s hit track “The Climb” was the reason she started playing the guitar and the first song she ever performed. In fact, Genevieve has come full circle. In a special way, this EP is her unique spin on “The Climb,” sharing a similar message that life does get better, but sometimes we have to trek its mountains to emerge a better person.

Hailing from various parts of the world, such as Boston, New York, and Bermuda, one thing that has always remained consistent is Ren Genevieve’s passion for the arts. Thanks to her diverse upbringing, Genevieve’s songwriting is inspired by a melting pot of cultural influences, giving her music a significant amount of emotional depth and maturity. While she first started developing an affinity for music in early childhood, it wasn’t until college that she felt compelled to finally begin sharing her projects with friends and family. In February of 2022, Genevieve released her first single “I Like You (I Think),” followed by “tongue tied,” her second single, in November of the same year. This eventually led to her creating, and now launching, her very own debut EP. A rising pop force to be reckoned with, she has received high praise from notable press outlets, such as NYS Music, New Scene Magazine, and The Indy Review. Compared to the likes of Ariana Grande and Olivia Rodrigo, Genevieve continues to make a name for herself in the industry with her vibrant, powerhouse vocals and colorful lyricism.

Ren Genevieve’s EP tongue tied is available now to stream on all worldwide digital platforms. This EP is a peek into her personal diary, a closer-than-ever-before look at the artist’s internal monologue, weaved together into a melodic tale. Genevieve hopes to touch as many listeners as possible with these songs. Stay connected and up-to-date with her musical projects by following Genevieve on Instagram and TikTok @RenGenevieve.
