101.9 The Mix Celebrates 32nd Annual Chicago River Day
This past Saturday, WTMX (101.9 The Mix)/Chicago’s staff and listeners volunteered at the annual Chicago River Day in partnership with The Friends of the Chicago River. The goal was to help restore wildlife and keep the river pristine ahead of the start of the summer.
The month-long campaign, fronted by Morning Mix Traffic Reporter Violeta Podrumedic, asked listeners to Volunteer with Violeta at LaBagh Woods, just one of 87 sites throughout the Chicago River system. In total, over 2,000 volunteers pitched in to remove garbage and invasive plant material to help in the restoration process of the 156 miles that make up the Chicago River System.
“Our partnership with The Mix adds tremendous value to our annual Chicago River Day event and measurably increases our success,” said Friends of the Chicago River Executive Director Margaret Frisbie. “With the help of The Mix this year, we expanded to 87 locations along the 156-mile Chicago-Calumet River system and engaged a record-breaking 2,400 volunteers who picked up tons of litter to protect and restore the river system.”
Mix/Throwback 100.3 Vice President of Brand and Content Jimmy Steal commented, “We’re happy to be a part of this important initiative where the power of local radio, coupled with our amazing staff and listeners, come together to help make a difference in our community.”
