CHANDLER DOZIER PAYS TRIBUTE TO NORTEÑO MUSIC ON NEW SINGLE “HOW LONG THIS HEARTACHE WILL BE”
Rising neo-traditional country artist Chandler Dozier explores new musical territory with his upcoming single, “How Long This Heartache Will Be,” arriving August 7 on all streaming platforms. Written solely by Chandler, the song combines classic country heartbreak with the lively, danceable rhythms of Norteño music.
Built around the desperate plea of a man wondering how long he’ll have to endure the pain of a broken heart, the song pairs timeless country storytelling with the unmistakable polka rhythms of Norteño music. Lyrics like “How’s a heart supposed to grow / When I don’t even know / Just how long this heartache will be” capture the lingering uncertainty that follows a lost love.
“I first discovered Norteño music through Dwight Yoakam’s version of ‘Streets of Bakersfield,’ with Flaco Jiménez on accordion,” says Chandler. “The more I learned about Flaco and his work, the more I fell in love with the style. I wanted to capture the same danceable energy while telling a classic country heartbreak story.”
While rooted in traditional country songwriting, Chandler says the genre felt like a natural fit. “I’ve heard Norteño described as Mexican country music, and I think that’s pretty spot on from a lyrical standpoint,” he says. “That made it feel natural to write in this style.”
The single continues Chandler’s artistic evolution while remaining true to the heartfelt songwriting and traditional country sound that have become his signature. It also offers another preview of his forthcoming EP, which finds Chandler continuing to explore new influences while honoring his neo-traditional roots.
